Analysis of Research Trends on Psychological Factors of Companion Animal Caregivers for Companion Animals

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the research trends on the psychological factors of companion animal guardians for companion animals. The term ¡°companion animals¡± was searched in the Korea Education and Research Information Service (RISS), and a total of 84 publications, including domestic master's and doctoral dissertations and academic journals from 2013 to March 2022 were selected for analysis. The results of the study were as follows. First, approximately more than half of the study utilized quantitative research method. Second, approximately more than 69% of the study was conducted with a sample of adult participants. Lastly, companion animal parenting experience and attachment were found to be the mostly utilized independent variables. It was also noted that mental health and depression were utilized as dependent variables with companion animals being utilized as an independent variable.
